Comments: Part of Len's humor was that he could share a laugh at himself.
Last spring, I emailed Len that I put clipless pedals (the kind that require special shoes that snap in and attach) on my new bike, so I'd need to practice detaching and not falling down at stops. He replied with this anecdote, which still makes me laugh now:
"Ah, I can tell you some good stories about my first clipless experiences. The best one was, I was riding down a bike path next to some baseball diamonds where a bunch of high school girls were playing. I'd just passed an old fart on his bike and was going about 22mph. Came to the roadway and saw vehicles coming both ways, so stopped and went to put my feet down. Well, you know what happened next. I fell flat, the old fart passed me, and the girls laughed hysterically. Damnit. "
